Video: Carlos Prates welcomes fan battling cancer into Fighting Nerds family
It seems rising UFC star Carlos Prates has a big heart to go along with his big personality.
Ahead of his UFC on ESPN 66 main event Saturday in Kansas City, Mo., Prates (21-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC) welcomed Randy, a superfan from the area, into the Fighting Nerds family. Randy is currently in a fight of his own: one with terminal esophageal cancer.
Randy reached out to Prates on April 15, asking the cigarette-loving UFC fighter if he would shave his head in exchange for a pack of smokes. Prates obliged and the two made good on the offer Wednesday.
Afterward, Randy posed for a photo with the Fighting Nerds team, including Prates, UFC middleweight contender Caio Borralho, and coach Pablo Sucupira.
