This CBS golf mainstay is replacing Verne Lundquist at No. 16 in 2025 Masters coverage
Redbud is going Kiwi this year.
During the 2025 Masters Tournament, the par-3 16th hole at Augusta National Golf Club will be called by native New Zealander Frank Nobilo for the first time.
Nobilo, 64, is replacing Verne Lundquist, who called his 40th and final Masters last year for CBS.
“We're excited that Frank Nobilo will be in the tower at 16 this year,” CBS Sports president David Berson announced Tuesday on a Masters media Zoom call. “He is as an integral part of our team, and you can look forward to his typical great insight and analysis now also at the famed 16th hole.”
Nobilo is in his 11th year on the broadcast team and is shifting over from his perch on Amen Corner, where he called Nos. 11 and 12. Nobilo will continue to call the 11th hole while Jim Nantz and lead analyst Trevor Immelman assume duties at the other par 3 on the second nine, famed No. 12.
Berson noted that he and executive producer Sellers Shy, who is in his fifth year in that role and working his 29th Masters, collaborated on the decision.
“When we made that determination, it was Sellers who had the luxury of placing that call to him,” Berson said.
“Frank is well respected not only by the players as a player but also by the players as a broadcaster,” Shy said. “It just was an easy fit. It will be a seamless transition.”
Nobilo joined CBS Sports as an analyst for the network’s golf coverage beginning in 2015 and became a full-time analyst for the 2020 season. He previously served as a studio analyst for Golf Channel following his retirement from tournament golf in 2003.
Prior to injuries, Nobilo won once on the PGA Tour, represented the International Team in each of the first three Presidents Cups and tied for fourth in the 1996 Masters. In his TV role, he's proven to be a pro's pro, adept at speaking with the knowledge of a former player while also being able to weave in relevant stats and deliver calls like a modern-day broadcaster.
“There’s now a real nice balance that I think everyone’s going to be very, very happy with," Shy said.
