Tennis star and daughter of Bills owners pokes fun at Dolphins after win in their stadium
A Pegula won in Miami. It’s a family tradition.
Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 ranked women’s tennis player, advanced to the semifinals of the Miami Open and then had some fun with Dolphins fans.
Pegula won a riveting match 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 6-2 against Emma Raducanu at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Dolphins, on Wednesday.
Pegula, 31, is the daughter of Buffalo Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula. She was born in Buffalo but moved with her family to Boca Raton, which is about 40 minutes north of Hard Rock Stadium, when she was 13 years old.
“Thank you guys so much for coming out. I love playing here,” Jessica Pegula said to fans in an on-court interview after the match. “I love playing home. I love getting wins in the Dolphins stadium. Just saying. Sorry, guys.
“But I always play really well here. I really do. You guys always coming out and support me so much. It’s my third semifinal in a row I think so I’m hoping third time is a charm. I want to make it to that final so bad so I’ll give it another shot tomorrow night.”
The Bills have a 17-5 record against the Dolphins, 7-4 in Miami, since the Pegulas purchased the franchise in October 2014 for $ 1.4 billion. Buffalo has beaten Miami in 13 of their last 14 games including playoffs.
The Bills have won five straight AFC East titles.

The Pegulas also own the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, AHL’s Rochester Americans, and Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knightawks of the National Lacrosse League. Terry Pegula has an estimated net worth of $ 7.6 billion, according to Forbes.
Jessica Pegula eliminated 19-year-old wild card Alexandra Eala from the Philippines 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-3 in two-hour, 26-minute semifinals match Thursday that spilled into Friday morning.
She will face No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s final at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. It’s a rematch of the 2024 U.S. Open final, which Sabalenka won 7-5, 7-5 for her third major victory.

Pegula has seven career titles, including three WTA 1000 championships. With a victory, Pegula would become the oldest player to defeat the No. 1 ranked player in a final since then 36-year-old Martina Navratilova upset Monica Seles at Paris 1993.
She reached the Miami Open semifinals in 2022 and 2023. Pegula and partner Coco Gauff became the first all-American team to win the Miami Open doubles title in 22 years in 2023.
