Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Ernie Els among 10 golfers to watch in 2025 Galleri Classic
No matter where you look through the field of the Galleri Classic in Rancho Mirage, you'll likely find a star.
Whether the player is a major championship winner from their days playing on the regular PGA Tour or they are a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame or both, familiar names with strong golf accomplishments are scattered throughout the 78-player field for the PGA Tour Champions event at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
Here are 10 players to follow during the third annual Galleri Classic this week:
Retief Goosen
For the first time in two years, Goosen won on the PGA Tour Champions last year with a steady performance in uncharacteristic wind and rain at the Galleri Classic last March. Still possessing a smooth putting stroke, the South African had a steady year after winning the Galleri. A repeat victory is possible, as long as he can find greens in regulation.
Bernhard Langer
The all-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions with 47 victories, Langer amazed people perhaps even more by returning to play on the tour last year just three months after rupturing an Achilles tendon in February of 2024. Later in the year, he won again, and he certainly has to be among the contenders every time he tees up. He also played on this golf course in 1976 in the World Club for Germany.
Ernie Els
A four-time major winner and a World Golf Hall of Famer, the Big Easy is one of the PGA Tour Champions' most recognizable players. A 19-time winner on the regular tour, Els earned his seventh senior tour victory to start the 2025 season and has continued to play well. Expect that to continue at the Galleri Classic.
Miguel Angel Jimenez
Because he's seen as a character on the tour, smoking cigars and warming up with a routine that has gone viral, Jimenez probably doesn't get the recognition he deserves for his fine play. But he won 21 times on the DP World Tour and has 15 career PGA Tour Champions victories, including two of the first five events on tour this year. He's a constant threat to win.
David Toms
Toms will forever hold the distinction of winning the first Galleri Classic title, taking the 2023 tournament with a winning score of 16-under par that was four shots better than the field. Another major champion winner on the regular tour at the 2001 PGA Championship for one of his 13 tour wins, Toms has four PGA Tour Champions victories. And he knows how to win at Mission Hills Country Club.
Steven Alker
Twice in the last three seasons, Alker has won the Charles Schwab Cup on the PGA Tour Champions. That's how good and how consistent Alker has been since making a name for himself after years of being a journeyman in golf. Alker already has a win on tour this year, and he's finished second at the Galleri Classic each of the last two years.
Fred Couples
Still one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour Champions, Couples plays at the whim of his famously balky back. But no one in the field knows the Dinah Shore Tournament Course like Couples, who played the course for years when he was a full-time resident of the Coachella Valley. If he can swing, he can contend.
Stewart Cink
Cink turned 50 before last year's Galleri Classic, but he wanted to concentrate on the regular tour for one more year. An eight-time PGA Tour winner and also the 2009 British Open champion, Cink is focusing on the PGA Tour Champions this year and will likely be a threat in numerous tournaments,
Justin Leonard
On the regular tour, Leonard was known for his 1997 British Open victory, his Ryder Cup heroics and his 1995 victory in The American Express. Now 52, Leonard finally has his first PGA Tour Champions victory at this year's Chubb Classic. Will one win lead to another and another for Leonard?
Vijay Singh
One of the most accomplished golfers on the PGA Tour and one of the rare golfers to take over the No. 1 ranking while Tiger Woods was in his prime, Singh won 34 times with two majors on the regular tour and has five senior victories. A long hitter, Singh's game seems to fit perfectly for the Dinah Shore Tournament Course, particularly the par-5s.
