Doubles final Saturday night, Singles final Sunday at Bakersfield Tennis Open
The 10th annual Bakersfield Tennis Open, which has been held all week long at the Bakersfield Racquet Club, is down to its last few matches and will crown its 2025 champions by the end of the weekend.
Saturday’s afternoon slate has singles bracket semifinals taking place with three seeded players among the four spots.
No. 1 seed Johannus Monday of Great Britain was playing No. 4 seed Bor Artnak of Slovenia in one semifinal while unseeded Isaiah Strode played No. 6 Alex Rybakov in the other. Winners advance to Sunday’s 1 p.m. singles championship match.
Monday defeated Trevor Svajda, the seventh seed, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals Friday night. Earlier Friday, Artnak edged Andres Martin, 2-6, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 in their quarterfinal match.
Meanwhile, the Bakersfield Tennis Open’s doubles championship will be decided Saturday evening. It is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.
The finalists are the No. 1 seeded team of Keshav Chopra and Andres Martin and a newly formed team this week, the unseeded Ryan Dickerson and Ty Gentry.
Chopra and Martin advanced to the final Friday night, eliminating Jagger Leach and Ian Mayew, 6-2, 6-4. Dickerson and Gentry defeated No. 4 seed Finn Murgett and Noah Schachter.
The Bakersfield Racquet Club will have a 10th anniversary of the Open celebration after the doubles title match is played.
The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.
