Boys tennis roundup: Montevideo sweeps Luverne, Pipestone
Apr. 6—MONTEVIDEO — Chalk up Saturday as a good day for the Montevideo boys tennis team.
The Thunder Hawks beat Luverne and Pipestone by identical 7-0 scores to improve their season record to 3-3.
Luverne and Pipestone also played in Granite Falls on Saturday against Yellow Medicine East. YME recorded a 6-1 victory over Pipestone and a 7-0 triumph over Luverne.
Montevideo secured straight-sets victories in all its matches. Thunder Hawks No. 1 singles player Gabriel Lindeman, a senior, beat Luverne senior Kaleb Hemme 6-1, 6-0.
The Thunder Hawks' No. 1 doubles team of ninth-graders Brady Baker and Chris Negen defeated Luverne's Christopher Severns and Ethan Van Batavia 6-0, 6-0. Severns and Van Batavia are sophomores.
Montevideo next plays at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in a West Central Conference match.
Montevideo enjoyed straight-sets victories throughout singles and doubles play to beat Pipestone at Montevideo.
Yellow Medicine East won every point except at No. 1 doubles to beat the Arrows at the KCC Tennis Courts in Granite Falls.
The Sting's singles contingent of Ryan Syring at No. 1, Karter Canatsey at No. 2, Liam Hadfield at No. 3 and Talmage Hadfield at No. 4 all won in straight sets by a combined score of 24-2.
YME next plays Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Granite Falls.
