Boys tennis roundup: Montevideo opens the season by going 1-1
Apr. 4—ST. PETER — The Montevideo boys tennis team won one and lost one to start the 2025 season Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Thunder Hawks first lost to St. Peter 5-2, then knocked off Worthington 6-1.
Against St. Peter, Thunder Hawks senior Gabriel Lindeman beat Ezekiel Ribar 7-6 (6), 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Montevideo earned a victory at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Patrick Baukol beat Brayden Rothenberger 6-2, 1-6, 14-12.
In the Worthington match, Montevideo swept the singles and also won at Nos. 1-2 doubles.
The Thunder Hawks' No. 1 doubles team of seniors Hunter Anspach and Jackson Viessman beat Worthington sophomores Moises Segura and Carlos (Alex) Martinez 6-0, 6-2.
Montevideo is scheduled to play Luverne at 3 p.m. Saturday in Montevideo.
Litchfield's lone victory came at No. 2 doubles in its season-opening loss at Mora.
The Dragons' Matt Defries and Isaac Elwell beat the Mustangs' Will Sand and Ryland Connolly 6-1 4-6, 6-4.
Litchfield suffered three-set losses at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles and No. 1 doubles. And, Mora's Tyler Hager beat Litchfield's Josh Blomberg 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 3 singles.
Litchfield has a Wright County Conference match scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchinson.
