Boys golf roundup: NLS strokes off the pace at Cardinal/Wildcat
Apr. 24—SPICER — Day 1 of the Cardinal/Wildcat Invitational saw the host team two strokes off the pace Thursday at Little Crow Country Club.
New London-Spicer shot a 295, just behind Brainerd's 293. The Cardinal/Wildcat Invite resumes at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar.
Willmar placed fourth with a 323. Lac qui Parle Valley was sixth at 328, Dawson-Boyd finished seventh at 300, Minnewaska was ninth at 340 and Central Minnesota Christian School was in 10th at 355. Montevideo (12th, 364), Benson (13th, 369), Community Christian School (14th, 373) and Litchfield (tied for 15th, 381) round out the list of area teams playing the 16-team, two-day tournament.
Brainerd's Alex Imgrund and Tyler Lehmann are tied for first after rounds of 2-under-par 70s. NLS' Blake Kath and Gabe Truscinski, LQPV's Carson Besonen and Morris/Chokio-Alberta's Charlie Hanson are all one stroke back after shooting 71s.
The Wildcats' Max Truscinski is tied for eighth with a 76.
Minnewaska's Thatcher Sherlin shot a 75, tying him for seventh.
Willmar's Aden Jacobson is tied for 13th with a 79 for the Cardinals' top score.
Dylan and Isaac Christensen led Paynesville to victory at the Kimball Invite at Kimball Golf Club.
The duo helped the Bulldogs total an invitational-low 170, which beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa's 179 and Royalton's 189. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City was fourth at 195.
Dylan carded a 39 to take second place behind Royalton's Zach Schraut, who shot a 38. Isaac followed closely with a 41 to place fourth overall.
BBE's Walker Winter and Paynesville's Lucas Bayer rounded out the top five at 40 and 42, finishing in third and fifth place, respectively.
