BOYS GOLF: Claremore's Williams, Mason tie for first as Zebras claim Pryor 36-Hole title
With the leaderboard tightening, Jack Williams stepped up and delivered the round of the tournament.
The Claremore standout fired a 3-under-par 69 in the final round Thursday, capping a stellar performance that earned him co-medalist honors and helped lift the Zebras to a dominant team victory at the Pryor Tigers 36-Hole Tournament at Pryor Creek Golf Course. Williams tied teammate Maddox Mason for the individual title, both finishing at 2-under 142 across two rounds. Williams' performance in Round 2 earned him the tiebreaker after trailing Mason by three strokes after 18 holes.
Claremore posted rounds of 296 and 290 for a team score of 586 — a commanding 47 strokes ahead of second-place Inola (633). The Zebras placed all five golfers inside the top 12 in a field of 60, including top-five finishes from Williams, Mason and Tate Dunlap (5-over 149).
Williams carded two birdies and an eagle in Round 1 before draining four more birdies in his lights-out final round. Mason opened with a 2-under 70 and stayed steady with an even-par 72 to match his teammate.
Dunlap bounced back from a 77 in the morning to shoot even par in the afternoon, while Tripp Jackson (153) and Connor Burton (161) rounded out the Zebras' scorecard with strong showings.
Inola, meanwhile, put together an impressive second-place showing behind a top-three individual finish from Travis Weast, who went 73-74 for a 3-over 147 and totaled five birdies.
Caden Thompson — who also had five birdies, shot even-par 72 in Round 2 to climb into seventh overall at 7-over 151 — while Caleb Helling added a 158 (78-80) to finish 11th.
The Longhorns’ depth helped them hold off other teams in the nine-team field, cementing a solid runner-up finish behind their Rogers County rivals.
